Panda software has worked hard over the past couple of years to make Platinum Internet Security a world-class security suite. For sheer peace of mind, this comes highly recommended.

What we love about Platinum :

  • World-class virus detection and removal
  • Peace of mind! With Platinum the Virus Signatures are updated at least daily, sometimes twice or more. You don't have to worry about whether your antivirus is up to date!
  • Platinum is smart. It's TruPrevent technology prevents new viruses, even without an updated Virus Definition File. How cool is that?
  • Excellent spyware detection too.
  • Solid firewall and parental controls.

Not so great :

  • Antispam product could use some improvement.
  • Support is only via Internet and email.
  • At 28 Mbytes, this is one of the largest suites to download.

Softwin's BitDefender 9 Internet Security


Overall, Bit Defender is an excellent product. It is easy to use, easy to install, has a great feature set. A top-notch product for making your PC totally secure.

What we love about BitDefender :

  • Multi-award winning antivirus module.
  • A very good firewall and parental controls.
  • Hourly virus updates, for true peace of mind.
  • User interface is highly configurable and very intuitive.

On the downside :

  • All-in-one suite lacks flexibility of a la carte solutions

Computer Associate's eTrust Suite

An extremely secure, dependable product from a very reputable software company. Highly recommended.


What we love about eTrust :

  • Speedy virus scanning.
  • Free chat-based support.
  • Excellent personal Firewall product

What's not so great :

  • At 23 Mbytes, this is one of the larger packages to download.

Mcafee's Internet Security Suite


For an all-in-one security solution you can hardly go wrong with Mcafee. It's dead-simple to install and very easy to run. This is something that every home PC should have.

What we love about Mcafee :

  • Excellent antivirus protection
  • McAfee's Privacy Service prevents personal data from being sent over the internet.
  • Parental control features.

Not so good :

  • Antispam product not as rich as other suites.
  • Parental control accounts are separate from the windows logins.
  • $20 rebate applies only to US and Canda.
