What's in it?
BitDefender 9 is a very comprehensive internet security suite. It includes the following modules : antivirus, antispam, antispyware, a personal firewall and parental controls. In short, everything you could possibly need to secure your home PC.
Effectiveness
BitDefender is a multi-award winning antivirus program, and is without doubt our number 1 ranked antivirus product.
Bitdefender was awarded the VB100 certification award the highest honor which can be betstowed by Virus Bulletin (www.virusbtn.com) This states that the product is able to detect all the viruses which currently exist in the wild.
The antivirus module has also been certified by ICSA labs and Checkmark.
Updates and Support
When you buy BitDefender you also entitled to one year of virus signature updates and scan engine upgrades.
The virus definition updates happen 24 times a day (ie every hour), which is excellent. The Live! Update feature handles all the virus definition and program updates
for you, so you never need to worry about it.
However there is a lot of flexibility in the Live! Update module. You can, if you wish, set it to update manually.
There is an extensive FAQ section on their website. I particularly like how technical support is offered live on the internet 24x7 via their LiveAssistance program. This really helps for those of us who live outside of the US.
Performance
BitDefender has a unique FileZone which appears on your desktop. BitDefender scans a portion of the files on your computer during the day, and you can see the results here. You can also drag any file you would like to check onto the FileZone.
BitDefender also has a unique HIVE technology. This is basically a mini test environment inside the computer where BitDefender runs suspicious programs.. If the program acts like a virus, it is neutralised.
What we love about BitDefender :
- Multi-award winning antivirus module.
- A very good firewall and parental controls.
- Hourly virus updates, for true peace of mind.
- User interface is highly configurable and very intuitive.
On the downside :
- Virus scanning can be slow.
Summary
Overall, Bit Defender is an excellent product. It is easy to use, easy to install, has a great feature set. A top-notch product for making your PC totally secure.
